Mosquito Season in Louisville

How to protect your family and Louisville home from mosquitoes

 by MIKE HALL Owner/Broker/Agent

As many of you know, it is mosquito season in Louisville. Whether you’re judging by a few itchy bites, or watching the news and worrying about Zika, the mosquitoes are in fact out and about. It is especially important for those planning on a family within the next few years to be extra cautious. So, here are some tips to ward off these pesky pests.

Standing water = red flag. Make sure your home's irrigation is top notch. Any marshy areas are indicators of poor plumbing or irrigation. Any birdbaths, dog water bowls, moist flowerpots or leaking hoses will have mosquitoes flying about.

If you are lucky enough to have a pond, lake, or pool in your backyard, keep your and little ones' skin protected when near water. If you are a pool owner, keeping up with weekly treatments will help ward off mosquitoes as well.

Other places to be cautious of; your hurby curby. Make sure the lid is always on, as rain water can collect in the bottom if not. Any lumber needs to be protected from water/the rain as well as compost bins and that trusty tire swing.

Happy summer!
