Keep an eye on your home to avoid repairs: Moisture
by MIKE HALL Owner/Agent/Broker
- Install rain gutters if you haven’t already. You want moisture directed away from your foundation to avoid cracks.
Check your rain gutters at least twice a year to remove leaf buildup. This backup can cause rust or rot, which will lead to the need for new rain gutters.
Place a water runoff pan at the base of gutters to keep water from digging a hole and reaching your foundation.
Re-caulk showers, tubs and sinks.
Check for roof leaks every few months in your attic.
Clean drip pan on your frost free refrigerator.
Clean faucet aerators and shower heads with vinegar to rid of mineral deposits.
Check around your sinks, refrigerator, laundry machine and dishwashers for signs of a leak.
If you happen to have a very retro bathroom, remove all permanent carpet and replace with tile. Mold and mildew do not need encouragement for growth, especially from toxic deadly stuff. Also, use your fan or crack a bathroom window when showering to avoid condensation.
Make sure your sprinklers are not reaching the house. Wet wood = dampwood termites.
